Why Isn't My Hearing Aid Working?!
Posted by Peter Attalla on
It can be quite frustrating when you see your hearing care professional, have your hearing aids perfectly fine-tuned and leave with them working great...yet a couple days later you find yourself contused whether your hearing aids are working or not.
Try following this checklist to see if perhaps any of these solutions will solve your problem!
-First, check to make sure your battery is new(or try a new one) and in the case of rechargeable hearing aids, make sure all the lights you see are green and not red
-Second, put the hearing aids on and try rubbing the top of them with your fingers to see if you can hear any scratching sounds at all as you touch the microphones
-If you do not hear anything and feel your hearing aids are dead, they are more than likely plugged up with wax. That tends to be the problem in about 90% of "dead hearing aid" cases we see
-In the case of the over the hear hearing aid, take a tissue and firmly squeeze and rub the tip of the dome multiple times in an attempt to push the wax out of the speaker
-In the case of the custom in-the-ear hearing aids, take a brush and try to clean the speaker, microphones, or any holes on the hearing aids
-If you have replaceable domes or wax filters(such as those found on our website), go ahead and replace them for new ones
-If they are still not working, the problem may be the electrical wire(Receiver) or a an electrical problem inside the actual hearing aid. In this case, I would refer you to seek some help from your hearing care professional.
Hope that helps!
